TP 101 - Turning Point Services 15-30 minutes
This training includes a complete discussion of the full range of domestic violence services offered by Turning Point, both in and out of shelter.
DV 101 - Dynamics of Domestic Violence 30-60 minutes
This training will explore the definitions of domestic violence, the cycle of violence, the power and control wheel, why a victim stays in the relationship, the signs of a battering personality, and a look at why the first 60-90 days after separation is the most dangerous time for a victim's safety.
DV 102 - Healthy Relationships 30 minutes
This training will explore the traits and characteristics of healthy relationships between partners.
DV 103 - Psychology of Battering 30 minutes
This training will examine why batterers batter and the signs of a battering personality.
DV 104 - Assessing Lethality of a Batterer 30 minutes
This training will identify some of the common traits and characteristics of a batterer who is more likely to commit homicide and/or suicide. Also examines the differences between male and female homicide perpetrators.
DV 105 - Working Together with Social Service Providers and Clergy
This training is designed to educate social service providers and members of the clergy about the dynamics of domestic violence, how to identify a violent relationship, and how to start a conversation with a client or parishioner about domestic violence. Training includes information about when and how to refer clients to Turning Point for specialized services.
DV 106 - Communicating with a Challenging Client 60-90 minutes
This training provides a framework and strategies for service providers to better deal with traumatized DV victims.
DV 107 - "Why Does he do that? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men" 1-4 hours
Based upon the Lundy Bancroft book by the same title, this training focuses on dispelling the myths about men who emotionally and physically abuse their partners. Participants will be better able to see the reasons why men batter and how to combat their controlling and manipulative tactics. It will also touch on how emotional abuse in a household negatively affects parenting. This training is a good follow-up to the basic DV 101 training.
DV 108 - Same Sex Domestic Violence
This training is focused on the particular barriers and myths faced by victims of domestic violence who are in a same sex relationship. It includes specific ideas on ways to support survivors of this type of violence.
