"We lived in the shelter for a month. We had nothing. I was at the lowest point in my life. My baby and I had PTSD. I was covered in bruises and everything made me jump. I cried all the time. I couldn’t look myself in the mirror. All I saw was a weak pathetic mother who couldn’t protect herself and her baby.

It was then that I decided I was no longer a victim. I was a fighter. I fought with everything in me. Every time I felt like giving up I remembered there were little eyes watching me, that my child needed me to stay strong. I have been free of domestic violence for four years now. Today I am a respite therapist for individuals with physical and or mental disabilities while I attend school full time to be a lawyer.

Today I am a strong independent single mother of two beautiful baby girls and I will teach them everything they need to know so what happened to me never happens to them. I am no longer a victim of domestic violence. I am a survivor”.
