Teens for Change is a Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Council. Teens for change works to promote healthy relationships in our community and surrounding areas. The teens plan, organize and execute events to help raise awareness surrounding dating & domestic violence. Statistics show that one in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence (loveisrespect.org). This is why local teens are working so hard to educate their peers on the issue.

I work for Turning Point as a Community Services Director in Jackson County. My goal is to provide education and awareness information on domestic violence to public and private audiences in the community.  Much of my job involves working with the youth of this county. Over the past 2 years, I have watched a student grow in so many ways as she worked toward her goals for graduation and college. When I first met Gaby Walters, she was focused on her education and a desire to make a difference in her community. She agreed to be an ambassador for Teens for Change and represent Crothersville High School. She inspired others around her to participate and care about issues that affected her school. During our last appointment, I was so impressed by her confidence and her ability to say she was achieving one of her goals. Graduation is next month. She has been taking college classes during her senior year and is preparing for full time college.  Gaby will not be involved in Teens for Change after graduation due to her work and class schedule. This is a loss for us, and she will be missed. We cannot thank her enough for her leadership and support as the group formed. Thinks Gaby! Good luck on all future endeavors.
